Palestinian refugees in Syria have called on the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and the General Authority for Palestinian Arab Refugees (GAPAR) to resume much-needed food assistance for thousands of families scattered across the war-torn country.

In their appeals, Palestinian refugees stressed the need for serious coordination between local relief committees in order to set practical mechanisms for urgent food assistance.

The refugees slammed UNRWA for its reluctance regarding their frequent appeals to deliver food allowances, particularly to sick refugees.

A couple of days earlier, GAPAR urged UNRWA to enhance its follow-up mechanisms in 2020 regarding the situation in Palestinian refugee camps in and around Damascus and to take part in a meeting slated to be held in this regard.

The warfare in Syria has led to massive destruction in Palestinian refugee camps and facilities across the country, including dozens of UN-run premises.

After more than eight years of conflict, Palestinian refugees in Syria continue to be one of the most vulnerable communities, with immense humanitarian needs and food insecurity concerns.
