According to the latest statistics published by the Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Authority, the number of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons exceeded 5,000, until the end of last year.

Two Palestinian detainees from Jabalia refugee camp, north of the Gaza Strip, were freed from an Israeli jail after a 13-year detention period.

Local sources said Israeli authorities released Muhammad Musa Saad, 42, and Muath Abdul Rahman Al-Mutooq, 31, after being held behind prison bars for nearly 13 years.

The media department of the Beit Hanoun checkpoint, which separates Gaza and Israel, said in a statement that the detainees lived in Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip.

Saad and Al-Mutooq were arrested during a military operation carried out by the Israeli army inside Jabalia camp in 2007.

The department indicated that the detainees were released after the end of their sentence, which they spent in Nafha desert prison, in southern Israel.

According to the latest statistics published by the Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Authority (affiliated with the PLO), the number of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons exceeded 5,000, until the end of last year.
