The Evros region is a major crossing point for refugees and migrants trying to enter the EU from Turkey.

Two Palestinian refugees from Syria were pronounced dead after they drowned on the perilous journey across the Evros River, near the Turkish-Greek borders, human rights sources have reported.

The London-based Action Group for Palestinians of Syria (AGPS) said in a Saturday report that Palestinian refugees Yazen Milad Qudsiya, from Syria’s Handarat refugee camp, and Layth Mohamed, from Jaramana camp, were found dead in the Evros region.

The Evros region is a major crossing point for refugees and migrants trying to enter the EU from Turkey.

Dozens of Palestinian refugees drowned as they tried to cross borders on Europe-bound migrant boats through the perilous journey across the Evros river over the past few years.

Since 2016, Greece has become the main entry point for asylum seekers in Europe.

The UN refugee agency said 55,000 migrants crossed from Turkey to Greece through the Aegean islands this year.
