Abbas Lauds Britain’s Support for UN Palestine Refugee Agency

Abbas met with Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales and the British Crown Prince, at the Presidential Palace in the city of Bethlehem, south of the West Bank last week.

Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas hailed the United Kingdom’s support for the Palestinian people and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugee (UNRWA).

This came as Abbas met with Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales and the British Crown Prince, at the Presidential Palace in the city of Bethlehem, south of the West Bank last week.

The President extended his thanks to the United Kingdom for its assistance to the Palestinian people in building state institutions, as well as its assistance to the UNRWA, and for accepting the two-state solution and rejecting the US-led "deal of the century".

“Our hope in the near future is that Britain recognizes the State of Palestine, because we’ve heard that the British Parliament recommended this to the government. So we hope that this will happen,” Abbas.

On the other side, Prince Charles lauded the historical Palestinian-British relations and said he looks forward to achieving just peace in the region.

Prince Charles arrived last Friday to Bethlehem city, the birthplace of Jesus Christ, marking the beginning of a historic visit to the occupied Palestinian territories.

Charles arrived in Manger Square, where he walked into Omar Mosque, located at the corner of the Square.

The Prince of Wales was joined at Manger Square by Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Roula Maayah, Palestinian ambassador to the UK Hussam Zomlot, Bethlehem Governor Kamel Hmeid, Bethlehem Mayor Anton Salman besides to a host of clergy and dignitaries.
