A full lockdown has been imposed on Qalandiya refugee camp north of occupied Jerusalem city after the first case of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 was confirmed.

Palestinian sources said precautionary measures were imposed on the camp, home to 8,832 Palestinians. Shop keepers received orders to shut down their stores.

The lockdown was slapped at 5 p.m. on Friday. It is to be maintained until all residents who work in territories occupied by Israel since 1948 return home.

The patient who tested positive for coronavirus was transferred to hospital at noontime Friday by a Red Crescent ambulance.

A home quarantine has been imposed on his family and relatives pending the results of laboratory tests.

Several other villages and towns in the occupied Palestinian territories where corona cases were confirmed have also been locked down.

The Ministry of Health has confirmed 205 cases of the disease in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, with one death.
