Palestinian refugees in Greece have been subjected to exorbitant fines, at a time when scores of stranded migrants have been struggling for survival in the coronavirus-stricken country.

Human rights sources said the Greek authorities have issued steep penalties against Palestinians among other asylum seekers taking shelter in Greece.

Sometime earlier, the Greek Minister of Migration said fines issued against migrants will be deducted from their monthly grants so as to force them to abide by the full quarantine.

Palestinian refugees continue to risk their lives onboard the “death boats” to Greece, rummaging around for a momentary respite from the daily scenes of destruction, displacement, and economic hardship.

Over recent years, human rights watchdogs have warned of simmering crackdowns by Greek police against migrants. Recorded violations include heavy beating, stripping refugees’ clothes, and forced push backs to Turkish borders.
