UN Official: More Funds Needed to Support Palestinian Refugees in Lebanon

Philippe Lazzarini, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA)'s new commissioner-general, more efforts should be exerted to support Palestinian refugees in Lebanon amid COVID-19 outbreak, the National News Agency reported.

"We will be making increased efforts in attracting more funds to support a decent life for Palestinian refugees," Lazzarini said during his meeting with Palestinian Ambassador to Lebanon Ashraf Dabbour to discuss the living conditions of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.

Dabbour emphasized the urgent need for support by the UNRWA to alleviate the sufferings of the Palestinian refugees amid the current difficult circumstances.

UNRWA is a United Nations agency established by the General Assembly in 1949 and mandated to provide assistance and protection to some 5.6 million Palestine refugees registered with UNRWA across its five fields of operation. Its mission is to help Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank, including East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip achieve their full human development potential, pending a just and lasting solution to their plight.
