Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry called for serious efforts to assuage the alarming humanitarian situation endured by Palestinian refugees scattered across displacement camps in the region.
Shoukry stressed the need to seriously work to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian refugees in displacement camps and to mobilize more support for the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in light of the financial challenges it faces so as to enable it to keep up its vital relief services to Palestinian refugees.
Shoukry, in his speech at a ministerial special session of the Arab League held via video conference on Thursday, emphasized Egypt’s categorical rejection of any unilateral steps taken by Israel.
The Egyptian FM reiterated his country’s firm position regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which is based on resuming negotiations in accordance with relevant international references and pursuing the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Shoukry highlighted the close link between achieving a comprehensive and just settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the one hand, and restoring peace and stability in the Middle East as a whole, on the other.
