Chilean Foreign Minister, Teodoro Ribera, slammed the Israeli plans to annex parts of the West Bank land as a dangerous step with unpredictable consequences on achieving a just and peaceful solution to the conflict, which would hinder any peace settlement on the basis of a two-state solution based on United Nations resolutions.
In a letter sent to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Riad al-Malki, Ribera stressed that the government of Chile is following with great interest and concern the Israeli impending annexation plans, emphasizing his country’s unwavering stance toward the Palestinian issue in adhering without restrictions to international law and United Nations resolutions, according to Wafa News Agency.
The minister reiterated Chile’s call to respect Security Council resolution 242 of 22 November 1967.
Ribera stressed that the government of Chile supports all efforts exerted toward achieving a durable peace and respect and recognizing the right of both states to exist in peace within secure and recognized borders, calling to create opportunities for good-faith dialogue and resuming negotiations for the well-being of both peoples.
