The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates is getting ready to bring home several hundred Palestinians who have been stuck in Europe following the closure of airports and borders due to the coronavirus pandemic, reported Wafa news agency.

The Ministry said in a statement that the Palestinians, mainly students, whose trip has been confirmed will board a Royal Jordanian plane in Frankfurt airport in Germany on Monday to be flown to Amman airport before crossing into the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

It said that when it first had hired a plane that can accommodate 160 passengers, it changed that and rented one that can hold 270 passengers, indicating the growing number of Palestinians stuck in Europe and who are seeking to return home through Jordan.

The Palestinians have been instructed to fly to Frankfurt airport and gather there on Monday to board the Royal Jordanian plane to Amman.

While the Jordanian airport remains closed for travelers, Jordan has agreed, at the request of the Palestinian Authority, to exclusively open the airport for the arrival of the passenger plane from Frankfurt since Jordan is the only way for Palestinians to return home in light of the absence of Palestinian ports due to the Israeli occupation of their land.

The passengers will then be immediately transported to King Hussein/Karama/Allenby bridge crossing with the West Bank. After crossing into the Israel-occupied West Bank, they will be taken to Jericho, which is controlled by the Palestinian Authority, where they will be tested for coronavirus and then asked to quarantine themselves for two weeks before they can return to their normal life.

The Foreign Ministry had previously made similar arrangements to bring home Palestinian students and others stuck in Arab counties and in Turkey.
