A Palestinian refugee from the Jenin refugee camp, in the northern occupied West Bank, has completed 19 years in Israeli jails, according to human rights sources.

Head of the Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS), Muntassar Samour, said in a statement that Palestinian refugee Thaer Azmi Husainiya has been locked up behind Israeli prison bars for the 19th year running.

The detainee is sentenced to 30 years in jail and has been subjected to harsh psycho-physical torture tactics, including solitary confinement and visit bans.

Israel holds over 5,000 Palestinian prisoners in jail, of which hundreds are being held in administrative detention, without the right to a trial.
