The US intends to resume aid to the Palestinians, most probably through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East UNRWA (UNRWA).

In a press briefing dating March 1, the US Department spokesperson Ned Price said: “I think as you’ve heard me say before, we intend to provide assistance that will benefit all Palestinians, including refugees.”

Responding to a question on the form of the intended assistance, the US official said: “We are in the process of determining how to move forward on resuming all forms of that assistance consistent with U.S. law”.

“We encouraged Israel to avoid unilateral steps that exacerbate tensions and make it more difficult to preserve the viability of a two-state solution”, he added. “You have heard in many different forms this administration endorse its vision and the longstanding bipartisan vision of a two-state solution. Any steps that put that two-state solution further out of reach, we have opposed and we continue to do so.”

Last week, the Palestinian American community and US organizations called for the immediate restoration of US aid to Palestinians.

In an official letter addressed to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the Palestinian American community and concerned American organizations called on Blinken to immediately restore all economic and humanitarian aid to Palestinians.

The letter stressed the “crucial role” played by the Palestinian American community in electing the US President Joe Biden and Biden’s promise to “restore America’s role and voice as a human rights champion on a global scale”, urging Biden to help alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
