PA Following-up on Palestine Refugees at Poland-Belarus Border

Efforts are underway to follow up on the issue of stranded Palestinian refugees at the Polish-Belarusian border, the Palestinian Authority said yesterday.

According to Palestinian news agency Wafa, the Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, said in a statement that based on the directions of Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki, the PA ambassador to Belarus is following up on the issue of Palestinian refugees.

The statement also said that the "Palestinian embassy is exerting efforts to keep contact with the Palestinians stranded in the buffer zone between Poland and Belarus. The exact number of stranded Palestinian refugees remains unknown.

"The refugees have tourist visas or study visas," the statement said, noting that the embassy offers several services to the stranded refugees.

The Palestinian embassy in Belarus reported that a Palestinian woman from Aleppo died and it is working to arrange the return of her body to her family. It did not give details about the family's current location.

On 17 November, it was reported that a 44-year-old Palestinian refugee was arrested in the train station while on her way to Minsk, the capital of Belarus, along with a group of refugees. She was later found dead in mysterious circumstances. No further details were made available. According to reports, the victim is from the Neirab refugee camp in Aleppo, northern Syria.
