Palestinians have expressed concern over mass expulsion from their homes after scores of Israeli settlers forced their way on Monday evening into the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem.

The settlers were led by far-right Israeli Member of the Knesset (MK), Itamar Ben Gvir, and right-wing diplomat who currently serves as Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem, Aryeh Yitzhak King. The assault occurred under heavy police escort.

The settlers attempted to break into a land lot belonging to the Palestinian Salem family, one of the families that are threatened with forcible expulsion from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah.

More than 500 Palestinians living in 28 houses in the neighborhood are facing threats of forced expulsion at the hands of Israeli settlement organizations backed by the Israeli government and its judiciary system.
