Ahmad Majdalani, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) met today in Ramallah with the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini.
Lazzarni and Majdalani discussed the difficult financial situation facing the agency and its impact on the sustainability of service provision in the face of dire circumstances facing the refugees.
Palestinian news agency WAFA said that the PLO official confirmed that the Palestinian leadership is making great efforts in mobilizing the necessary funding for UNRWA, in order to enable it to continue providing its basic services to refugees.
For his part, Lazzarini stressed the importance of continuing coordination with all Palestinian institutions in order to mobilize the financial support needed for the continuation and sustainability of UNRWA's work.
He maintained that UNRWA is facing financial distress as a result of many political factors, expressing concern about the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis on the funding needed for UNRWA to continue providing its services.
