The International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO) has contributed US$ 500,000 to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to provide emergency cash assistance to Palestine refugees in Gaza.

This contribution will help to support Palestine refugee families meet their basic human needs of food, shelter and environmental health and have a decent standard of living and enjoy human rights. UNRWA will provide an estimated 11,126 Palestine refugees in Gaza with cash assistance to mitigate additional socio-economic hardship due to the on-going crisis.

“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the International Islamic Charity Organization for their renewed support for Palestine refugee in Gaza,” said Tom White, Director of UNRWA Affairs in Gaza. “This contribution will allow UNRWA to help ensure a better and healthier life for Palestine refugee children in Gaza, in spite of the many challenges and poverty presented by the ongoing blockade.”

He added: “The humanitarian needs are at an all-time high in the Gaza Strip where the population has been severely affected by the recent conflicts and also suffered the impact of coronavirus and related restrictions on top of the blockade.”

The UNRWA emergency in-kind food assistance programme provides food to over 1 million Palestine refugees, the distribution of which - after the halt of recent hostilities - has been accelerated in response to the overall emergency situation.
