UNRWA Deeply Alarmed by Israeli Aggression on Besieged Gaza

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said it is deeply concerned by the escalation in the blockaded Gaza Strip over the last two days.

On Saturday, five Palestine refugees were killed in Jabalia camp including two children who attended UNRWA schools.

The Agency expressed its deepest condolences to the families of those affected by the most recent escalation of hostilities.

UNRWA said its essential personnel are working around the clock to monitor the situation and ensure critical service delivery.

Reduced electricity and fuel shortages are cause for grave concern, particularly for the continued operation of hospitals and medical facilities and water desalination. People in Gaza have received an average of four hours of electricity per day in the past two days, it added.

The profound psychosocial impact of recurrent conflicts on the residents of Gaza, especially children, is palpable.

UNRWA unequivocally condemned the killing and wounding of all civilians, who are protected from attack under international law, and the conduct of military operations in the vicinity of civilians and civilian locations.

UNRWA called on all parties to ensure the protection of civilians, including Palestine refugees.
