United Nations
The United Nations is looking for alternative proposals for the UN Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Quds Net has reported, quoting Israeli news outlets.
According to the Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ office had asked pro-Israel NGOs to put forward bids to replace UNRWA’s operations.
Guterres’ office tasked pro-Israeli NGOs, including the Centre for Near East Policy Research with submitting proposals.
The centre is headed by journalist David Bedein, whom the Israeli newspaper described as “a vocal critic of UNRWA”.
According to the Israeli daily, the UN Secretary-General had met with a number of NGOs over the past year and said that there is a planned meeting sometime this month.
Analysts say the move comes following simmering pressure from the US, Israel, and their lobbies, who continue to accuse UNRWA of being “grossly one-sided” in favor of the Palestinians.
