Foreign diplomats visited on Wednesday Jub Al Deeb school near Bethlehem, which has received an Israeli demolition order, and urged Israel to reverse its decision.
The British Consulate General in Jerusalem said that it joined other missions on a visit to Jub Al Deed school– one of 58 schools in the West Bank and East Jerusalem at risk of Israeli demolition.
“We urge Israel to reverse the demolition order and protect the right to education for all,” it said in a tweet.
The Representative Office of Ireland in Ramallah also tweeted about the visit.
“As the occupying power, Israel must safeguard access to children’s education in the occupied Palestinian territory,” it said.
In a tweet, the European Union office in Jerusalem warned, “If the demolition proceeds, around 70 children in grades 1-4 will be affected and lose their opportunity to go to school in the village. Such demolitions should not take place.”
It said that it “remains concerned at the continued humanitarian suffering of such actions to Palestinians.”
The Society of Saint Yves Catholic Center for Human Rights briefed the diplomats on the latest developments pertaining to the school as young students also had an opportunity to share their attachment to the school and asked diplomats to protect their school from being demolished, it said.
“We need to do everything to stop the demolition of the threatened school of Jub Al Deeb and to guarantee Palestinians' right to education,” said the rights centre.
It also called for increasing advocacy efforts and issuing public statements, posts and tweets for an immediate end to school demolitions and protection of Palestinian children's rights.
The centre called for supporting children by all means possible and providing international presence at the schools at risk of demolition.
