Israel has released Muazzaz Khalil Obaidat, a Palestinian man, in a “shocking” health condition following his nine-month detention, according to a local NGO.

Obaidat, a 37-year-old father of five from Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank, was detained by Israeli forces in October and held without charge under Israel’s controversial administrative detention policy.

The Palestinian Prisoners Society said in a statement that Obaidat was released from Negev Prison in a grave and shocking health condition. The NGO reported that Obaidat suffered severe physical abuse during his arrest in late October 2023.

Obaidat was subjected to torture and starvation. His health condition upon release is a testament to the brutal treatment he endured behind Israeli bars.
