Aerial assaults by Israel on a school housing displaced Palestinians in central Gaza have resulted in the deaths of at least 15 individuals, according to the Gaza Government Media Office.
Numerous others sustained injuries in the attack on Hamama school, located in the Sheikh Radwan area of Gaza City.
Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud, reporting from Deir el-Balah in central Gaza, stated that three bombs were dropped on the school while rescuers and volunteers were attempting to evacuate people trapped beneath the debris.
“The three bombs obliterated the facility entirely. This strategy, where the Israeli military initially drops a bomb causing partial destruction and casualties, followed by additional bombs within minutes, has been previously employed, especially on evacuation centers,” Mahmoud explained.
The Israeli military alleged that the school was utilized by Hamas, the governing Palestinian faction in Gaza, as a command center to conceal fighters and produce weapons.
Hamas refuted these allegations, insisting that it does not operate from civilian infrastructures such as schools and hospitals. The group condemned the Israeli strikes on the school, declaring in a statement, “The occupation army fabricates excuses to target unarmed civilians in Gaza.”
Live footage showed victims of the Israeli strikes being transported to al-Ahli Hospital. Among the injured were children, some seemingly unconscious, with medical staff frantically providing treatment.
Scenes at the hospital were described as chaotic, with some injured civilians lying on the floors as mourning Palestinians crowded the hallways. Eyewitnesses stated the raids occurred without prior warning.
Earlier on Saturday, Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip resulted in six fatalities in a residence in Rafah's southern region and two more in Gaza City, according to Gaza health officials.
