PRC’s "Naming Genocide" Conference Ends with a Call for Action

The Palestinian Return Centre (PRC) concluded its "Naming Genocide: The Global Responsibility for Gaza" conference with a powerful closing address by Prof. Penny Green, an Australian Professor of Law.

Prof. Green praised the conference’s in-depth discussions and highlighted the importance of recognizing genocide as an ongoing process rooted in historical injustices, rather than a singular event starting on October 7, 2023.

Prof. Green traced the origins of the current crisis in Gaza back to the Balfour Declaration, outlining how genocide unfolds in stages—from dehumanization to systemic annihilation and historical erasure. She criticized the limitations of international law, which often fails to address structural violence, and stressed that Palestinians do not need a court ruling to validate their lived reality of genocide.

She urged global mobilisation beyond legal avenues, calling for protests, boycotts, and direct action to dismantle the structures enabling genocide. She called on institutions and governments to sever financial and diplomatic ties with Israel.

Prof. Green also highlighted grassroots initiatives, including the Gaza Tribunal and legal efforts to hold Israeli officials accountable through universal jurisdiction. She paid tribute to Palestinian resilience and urged global allies to challenge dehumanizing rhetoric and propaganda.

Concluding the event, PRC reaffirmed its commitment to amplifying Palestinian voices and strengthening global solidarity. The conference underscored the urgent need for continued advocacy, legal accountability, and mass mobilisation against genocide.
