In response to the renewed Israeli airstrikes on Gaza, which have resulted in the deaths of over 400 people, US Representatives Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, and Summer Lee have called for an arms embargo and an end to US support for Israel.
The lawmakers strongly criticized the resumption of violence, which ended a fragile ceasefire that had been in place since January 19.
“The Israeli apartheid regime has resumed its genocide, carrying out airstrikes all across Gaza and killing hundreds of Palestinians,” Tlaib wrote on X, emphasizing that Israel will not halt its actions without sanctions and an arms embargo.
Omar reinforced this stance, stating, “Netanyahu has shattered the ceasefire agreement, indiscriminately killing hundreds of people in Gaza ... Arms embargo NOW.”
Lee pointed to the worsening humanitarian catastrophe, noting, “Israel has consistently violated the ceasefire and cut off all aid to Gaza ... This US-backed genocide must end.”
The calls from these lawmakers come as US support for Israel's military offensive in Gaza faces increasing global criticism. Since October 2023, the conflict has led to the deaths of more than 48,500 Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children.
