The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has sounded the alarm over the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, as Israel’s blockade on aid and commercial goods enters its second month.
In a message posted on its official X account (formerly Twitter), UNRWA revealed that it has been over a month since the Israeli authorities imposed a complete ban on the entry of humanitarian assistance and commercial supplies into the besieged enclave.
“UNRWA continues to provide assistance with whatever supplies remain,” the agency stated. “Stocks are getting low and the situation is becoming desperate.”
The relentless Israeli bombardment and siege have plunged Gaza’s already fragile infrastructure into deeper collapse, with aid agencies struggling to meet even the most basic needs of the population.
Food, clean water, medical supplies, and fuel are in critically short supply, leaving families increasingly vulnerable to hunger, disease, and exposure.
The humanitarian crisis has worsened significantly since the Israeli military intensified its operations in mid-March, coinciding with the sealing of all crossings and a crackdown on the delivery of life-saving aid.
“The siege must end and humanitarian aid must be allowed back in,” UNRWA urged, calling on the international community to act swiftly to prevent further suffering and loss of life.
More than 50,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since October 2023, the majority of them women and children. With entire neighborhoods reduced to rubble and displacement reaching unprecedented levels, aid workers have repeatedly warned that time is running out for millions trapped under siege.
