British Foreign Minister David Lammy has strongly condemned Israel’s continued bombing of medical facilities in the Gaza Strip, warning that such strikes have “comprehensively degraded access to healthcare” in the besieged enclave.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Lammy expressed grave concern over the repeated targeting of hospitals, specifically citing Al-Ahli Hospital, which has endured multiple attacks since the outbreak of the current conflict.
Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in central Gaza was targeted Sunday by two Israeli missiles, which hit the hospital's emergency room, surgical operations building, and medical oxygen production station.
The attack is said to have put the area's last operating hospital out of service.
“Al-Ahli Hospital has been attacked repeatedly since the conflict began. These deplorable attacks must end,” Lammy wrote. “Diplomacy not more bloodshed is how we will achieve a lasting peace.”
The remarks mark one of the clearest condemnations to date from a senior UK official regarding the impact of Israeli military operations on Gaza’s already collapsing healthcare system.
PRC has long warned that the systematic targeting of hospitals, ambulances, and medical personnel in Gaza constitutes a severe breach of international humanitarian law.
Over the past months, Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure has been pushed to the brink, with most hospitals either non-functional or operating at minimal capacity due to fuel shortages, structural damage, and an overwhelming influx of wounded civilians.
Lammy’s statement reflects growing unease within British political circles over the scale of destruction in Gaza and the disproportionate impact on civilians.
