The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has sounded the alarm over the rapidly worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza, where ongoing bombardments and a tightening blockade continue to drive mass displacement.

UNRWA currently operates 115 shelters across the Gaza Strip, now hosting more than 90,000 displaced individuals.

The agency described the situation as “already dire,” warning that it is rapidly deteriorating due to persistent Israeli bombardment and a suffocating siege that has blocked the entry of critical humanitarian and commercial supplies.

The United Nations estimates that nearly 420,000 people have been displaced yet again since the breakdown of the most recent ceasefire, compounding an already devastating displacement crisis.

Aid agencies, including UNRWA, are struggling to meet the growing needs of the civilian population, many of whom have been forced to flee multiple times in search of safety.

With infrastructure crumbling and access to food, water, and medical supplies severely restricted, international humanitarian organizations have reiterated urgent calls for a sustained ceasefire and the immediate unimpeded entry of aid into Gaza.

UNRWA and other UN bodies continue to appeal to the international community to act swiftly to avert an even greater catastrophe and to ensure the protection of civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law.

Israel has killed more than 51,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in the enclave since October 2023.
