The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has warned that scores of Palestinian families are forced to live in the wreckage of their former homes, saying 90% of homes in Gaza have been destroyed amid the Israeli war.
“With nowhere safe to go, families shelter in unsafe ruins. IOM has shelter aid ready—entry points must open NOW,” said IOM in a statement on X, underscoring the gravity of the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the Gaza Strip.
Thousands of civilians displaced by ongoing Israeli offensives have been left with no option but to seek refuge in bombed-out buildings, half-collapsed homes, and exposed open spaces. These makeshift shelters offer little to no protection from the elements, further endangering the lives of vulnerable families—especially children, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
The Israeli army resumed its onslaught on Gaza on March 18, shattering a Jan. 19 ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement.
Israel has killed over 51,300 Palestinians in the enclave since October 2023, most of them women and children.
