The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has sounded the alarm over the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, saying that more than 97,000 Palestinians have been forcibly displaced within the besieged enclave in just the past four days.
In a statement published on social media platform X, the IOM stressed that displacement has become a tragic constant in Gaza, underscoring the urgent need for immediate humanitarian intervention and unimpeded access for aid operations.
The organization also warned against the use of humanitarian aid as a tool to influence or control the movement of vulnerable populations.
“Displacement is a constant in #Gaza. Humanitarian aid must never be used to influence the movement of people,” the IOM said. “IOM stands ready with our partners to assist displaced communities inside Gaza.”
The agency reiterated its call for an immediate ceasefire and demanded “full, safe, sustained access to operate” within the Strip, where relentless bombardment and military operations continue to devastate civilian infrastructure and uproot entire communities.
Thousands of displaced families are left scrambling for safety, shelter, and basic necessities, often forced to move multiple times amid shifting frontlines and persistent Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip since a Hamas attack on Oct. 7, 2023, killing more than 53,000 Palestinians so far, most of them women and children.
