Ahead of a three-nation diplomatic tour to Europe and Latin America, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim held a high-level video call with former UK Labour leader and sitting MP Jeremy Corbyn to discuss urgent international efforts to halt what both leaders described as the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

In a statement released Tuesday on X, Prime Minister Anwar described the meeting as “productive,” emphasizing the importance of collaborative action among like-minded nations—including those affiliated with the Hague Group—to ramp up international pressure on Israel to end its military campaign in Gaza.

“We reaffirmed our shared commitment to upholding international law, defending human rights, and advocating for a just and lasting peace,” Anwar said.

The Hague Group, which includes states and political leaders united by a commitment to multilateralism and international justice, is expected to play a central role in mounting diplomatic and legal initiatives to hold Israel accountable for what rights groups and UN experts have increasingly labeled as acts of genocide.

With Gaza facing unprecedented devastation, mass civilian casualties, and a deepening humanitarian crisis, Anwar underscored the critical need for “global solidarity and moral courage.”

The video call signals growing coordination among global South leaders and progressive political figures in Europe as frustration mounts over the perceived inaction of major Western powers in the face of Israeli war crimes and grave human rights violations.

Despite international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has killed more than 56,500 Palestinians in a deadly onslaught in the Gaza Strip since October 2023.
