As Israel’s military campaign in Gaza continues unabated, strikes in the past 24 hours have reportedly targeted sites sheltering displaced Palestinians, leaving more civilians killed and injured, according to a UN agency.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), over 11,500 people were newly displaced in Gaza between 8 and 15 July alone.

Since the latest escalation on 18 March, more than 737,000 people—approximately 35% of Gaza’s population—have been forced to flee their homes.

Nearly the entire population has now experienced displacement, many of them multiple times, since Israel's assault began in October 2023.

UN spokesperson Stéphanie Tremblay underscored the scale of the devastation, stressing that most homes in Gaza have been either flattened or rendered uninhabitable. With the continued Israeli blockade preventing the entry of tents and shelter materials since early March, countless families are now sleeping in the open, exposed to the searing summer heat and without access to basic humanitarian support.

This deepening crisis reflects the catastrophic toll of Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza, which UN experts and rights groups have increasingly characterized as genocidal in nature. The humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate by the hour, as displaced Palestinians bear the brunt of relentless bombardment, enforced homelessness, and the systematic denial of aid.

The Israeli army, rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, has pursued a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing nearly 58,700 Palestinians, most of them women and children.
