China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Friday that Beijing supports a high-level United Nations' conference on the two-state solution and will continue to work with the international community to help end the conflict in Gaza, reported China Daily.

Guo made the remarks after France said it will recognize Palestine as a state at the UN General Assembly in September.

Macron’s announcement sparked strong backlash from both Israel and its close ally, the United States.

France is set to become the first G7 nation—a group comprising the world’s leading advanced economies—to officially recognize the state of Palestine. As of now, 147 out of the 193 United Nations member states have granted such recognition.

"The Palestinian question is at the core of the Middle East issue and the two-state solution is the only realistic way to resolve the question of Palestine," Guo said.

The spokesman said that China will continue to work with the global community to help end the conflict in Gaza, alleviate the humanitarian crisis, implement the two-state solution, and ultimately realize the comprehensive, just, and lasting solution to the Palestinian question.
