Nearly 75,000 displaced Palestinians are still seeking refuge in more than 100 UNRWA-run shelters across the Gaza Strip, many of which are damaged, overcrowded, and struggling to meet basic humanitarian standards, according to  UN agency for Palestinian refugees.

In its latest statement on X, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said its teams are working tirelessly under dire conditions to ensure shelters remain as safe and dignified as possible amid the devastation.

UNRWA added that daily operations include water provision, sanitation services, waste collection, and hygiene support, which are vital lifelines in an environment where infrastructure has been crippled by months of bombardment and siege.

As a result of Israeli war on the enclave, which began on October 7, 2023, tens of thousands of Palestinian families have lost their homes or can no longer return due to widespread destruction. Many shelters, initially designed for temporary protection, are now hosting people for months on end, compounding overcrowding and health risks.

Data by the Gaza Health Ministry indicates that Israel’s war on the besieged enclave has claimed the lives of more than 68,800 people and left over 170,600 injured, mostly women and children.
