United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed deep concern over Israel’s decision to suspend the operations of several international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) in the occupied Palestinian territory, warning that the move threatens lifesaving humanitarian efforts.

In a statement delivered on Thursday by UN Spokesman Stéphane Dujarric, the Secretary-General called on Israeli authorities to reverse the measure, stressing that international humanitarian organizations play an indispensable role in delivering critical assistance to civilians.

The suspension, he said, comes at a particularly fragile moment, as humanitarian agencies are attempting to scale up relief efforts following a ceasefire.

According to the statement, the decision could undermine limited progress achieved in easing humanitarian conditions.

The Secretary-General noted that the announcement follows a series of earlier restrictions that have already delayed the entry of essential supplies into Gaza, including food, medical aid, hygiene items, and shelter materials.

He warned that the latest action would further exacerbate the humanitarian emergency facing Palestinians.

Guterres also underscored Israel’s obligations under international humanitarian law, emphasizing that it must allow and facilitate the rapid and unimpeded passage of humanitarian relief for all civilians in need.

He reiterated that all humanitarian partners must be able to operate safely and independently, in full accordance with humanitarian principles, to ensure assistance reaches those most affected by the ongoing crisis.
