Israeli authorities have initiated steps to strip dozens of international humanitarian organizations of their permission to operate in the Gaza Strip under the pretext they do not meet registration rules, in a move that will significantly block civilians’ access to life-saving aid in the besieged enclave.

According to Israeli public broadcaster KAN, the process targets 37 international organizations whose registrations are being revoked under newly introduced licensing requirements.

The broadcaster said formal notifications were sent earlier this week, informing the affected groups that their authorization to work in Gaza would be withdrawn beginning January 2026, with a deadline to wind down operations by March.

The broadcaster also cited Israeli security assessments alleging irregularities involving staff members of Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières), claiming that the organization failed to fully disclose information related to two employees allegedly linked to prohibited activities. No evidence was publicly presented to substantiate the claims.

Humanitarian organizations, international actors, and UN experts have warned that Israel’s decision to cancel the licenses of several international relief groups is driven largely by political considerations rather than operational or security concerns.

Continued pressure on aid groups could further limit access to life-saving assistance in Gaza, where needs have reached unprecedented levels amid ongoing devastation and displacement.
