UK politicians are intensifying calls for the urgent reopening of the Rafah border crossing to allow lifesaving aid into Gaza.
Hamish Falconer MP said on X the crossing “must urgently be reopened” without delay to increase humanitarian assistance and enable access “to urgent medical treatment”.
He stressed that reopening Rafah would help address the growing humanitarian crisis and support those requiring immediate care outside Gaza.
The call was echoed on Thursday by Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, who welcomed indications that the crossing could reopen in the coming days.
Cooper cited signals from the new Gaza Palestinian Committee and the United States suggesting progress on reopening Rafah.
She said the UK wants to see this move implemented as soon as possible.
Her priority, she added, is ensuring more aid reaches Gaza and that critically ill and injured people can access vital medical treatment.
The renewed UK pressure comes amid mounting international concern over worsening conditions in the Israeli-blockaded Gaza Strip and severe restrictions on humanitarian access.
