New testimonies from the Palestinian Commission of Detainees Affairs have shed light on the harrowing experiences of a mother and her daughter currently held in Israeli detention.

Amina Suweilim, 55, and her 22-year-old daughter, Ayat, have detailed a series of rights violations, including invasive strip searches and psychological coercion, since their arrest in the occupied West Bank late last year.

A Family Separated by Force

The ordeal began on November 3, 2025, when Israeli forces reportedly raided the Suweilim family home in Nablus.

According to a legal representative from the Commission who recently visited the pair, the mother and daughter were seized and transported in separate military vehicles.

Amina recounted being forced to sit on the floor of a moving military transport, an experience she says caused a persistent shoulder injury.

Once in custody, the two were subjected to intense interrogation. Amina highlighted the use of "psychological pressure," noting that authorities intentionally questioned her in her daughter’s presence to maximize distress.

Harsh Conditions and Solitary Confinement

The Commission’s report details a period of isolation at the Jalameh detention center in northern Israel. Ayat and Amina were held in solitary confinement, granted only a brief three-day window to see one another.

They described their living quarters as physically oppressive, with cramped, freezing cells and abrasive walls.

They were also deprived of basic needs, having access to only thin bedding and meager portions of low-quality food.

Upon their eventual transfer to Damon Prison, both women were subjected to strip searches and restricted from communicating.

Medical Neglect and Systemic Abuse

The health of the elder Suweilim has reportedly declined significantly. Amina is suffering from a torn tendon in her left hand, a condition exacerbated by the frequent use of rear-handcuffing during prison transfers.

This case is not isolated. The Commission pointed to a broader trend of medical neglect, lack of basic hygiene supplies, and arbitrary disciplinary actions facing Palestinian detainees.

These reports have surged since the onset of the conflict in Gaza in October 2023, with various human rights organizations documenting an uptick in physical abuse, torture, and food deprivation within the prison system.

While a ceasefire was established on October 10, 2025, the humanitarian toll remains staggering. Data from the Gaza Health Ministry indicates that over 72,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023, with unabated Israeli shelling continuing to claim more civilian lives.
