Far-right Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has been accused of personally "stepping on prisoners’ heads" during a raid at Ofer Prison in the occupied West Bank.
According to a statement released Monday by the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS), the incident occurred last Friday in "Section 26" during a routine evening security inspection.
The operation, which lasted approximately 15 minutes, reportedly involved the use of police dogs and stun grenades while being documented by Israeli media.
The rights group said that Ben-Gvir remained in the section for about an hour, using provocative and degrading language toward the detainees.
According to the PPS, the minister insisted on publishing video clips of the suppression as promotional material for proposed legislation to execute Palestinian prisoners.
Testimonies collected by a lawyer from the rights group included several accounts of Ben-Gvir filming the humiliation and abuse of detainees while physically assaulting them.
Detainees reported being forced to keep their faces pressed to the ground during the operation to degrade their dignity. The PPS argued that the published footage represents only a small fraction of the "systematic torture" currently taking place within the prison system, which has become a primary arena for genocide.
Since the escalation of the conflict in October 2023, the Palestinian Prisoner Society has reported that more than 100 prisoners and detainees have died in custody, with 88 identities officially announced.
The group stated that the Israeli prison system has "deliberately broadcast" videos of abuse as an attempt to intimidate families and gain domestic political support through brutality.
Currently, more than 9,300 Palestinians are held in Israeli prisons, including approximately 350 children, all of whom face reported starvation and medical neglect.
The rights organization has called for urgent international intervention to stop the ongoing crimes inside the facilities and to allow international organizations and families to visit the prisoners.
These reports come amid a broader surge in casualties, with over 72,000 people killed and more than 171,000 injured in the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza.
