Palestinian Refugees in Egypt to Receive Travel Documents for $10

Unofficial data indicates that some 100,000 Palestinian refugees carry Egyptian travel documents.

Egypt’s Interior Minister, Major General Mahmoud Tawfik, issued a decision to grant travel documents for Palestinian refugees in return for $10, introducing, therefore, an unforeseen revision of Article 10 of Minister of Interior Resolution No. 81 of 1964 regarding the travel documents of Palestinian refugees.

According to the new decision, Palestinian refugees should only pay 165 Egyptian pounds (about $ 10) to receive travel documents.

Holders of the document will also be exempted from return visa fees stipulated in Article 9 of Resolution No. 180 of 1964. Those with poverty-proofs will obtain the travel document for free.

Unofficial data indicates that some 100,000 Palestinian refugees carry Egyptian travel documents, up from 33,000 in 1969.
