THE PALESTINIAN RETURN CENTRE MOURNS HISTORICAL LEADER

With heavy hearts and sadness the Palestinian Return Centre (PRC) mourns the passing of President Yasser Arafat. For four decades he guided, embodied and symbolized the Palestinian national struggle for freedom and independence.

Yasser Arafat did not live long enough to see the fulfilment of his dream. He did not live to see a young Palestinian girl raise the national flag from the walls of Jerusalem.

PRC Director Majed Al Zeer said, ‘Yasser Arafat’s passing marks the end of a historical era in the modern history of the Palestinian people. He would be remembered for countless reasons by his friends and adversaries.’

‘In the eyes of his people’, Al Zeer added, ‘Arafat’s enduring legacy is that ‘he firmly implanted the Palestinian issue at the top of the international political agenda and transferred the axis of their struggle from the diaspora to the homeland.’

Arafat has left his people physically, never to return. He will, however, enjoy for generations to come a cherished place in their hearts and memories. The Palestinian people will remain loyal to the just cause to which he sacrificed his life until their inalienable rights are restored.
