The Palestinian Return Centre (PRC) is preparing to launch its Palestinian Refugee Week which comes in coincidence with World Refugee Day. The centre is preparing a set of activities from the 18th-25th June 2011. The week aims at raising awareness of the issue of Palestinian Refugees and the suffering that faces them in the refugee camps and Diaspora.
On the 18th PRC is holding a learning and study day on the issue of Palestinian Refugees. An entire full day of lectures, seminars and discussion circles will take place. Experts on the issue of Palestine will be delivering the day through their long term expertise. It’s highly recommended to reserve your seat by contacting us on the below contact information.
A key event is scheduled at the Houses of Parliament on Monday, 20th June from 6.00 to 7.30. It will discuss the issue of Palestinian Refugees in Lebanon in light of PRC’s parliamentary delegation to Lebanon in Feb 2011. The centre has carried out a number of follow up activities including a meeting with the British Minister of International Development, Andrew Mitchell, to highlight on Refugees ordeals.
On the 25th of June 2011, the centre will also hold an open day event on Hyde Park Speaker Corner. Speeches, debates and discussions will be made on the day. The event will last 3 hours from 2pm to 5 pm.
Other activities will be announced later on.
It is worth mentioning that the UN General Assembly, on 4 December 2000, adopted resolution 55/76 where it noted that 2001 marked the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees, and that the Organization of African Unity (OAU) had agreed to have International Refugee Day coincide with Africa Refugee Day on 20 June.
