Palestinian Refugee Week in the UK - 18th-25th June 2011

As World Refugee Day approaches, the Palestinian Return Centre (PRC) is gearing up to launch a set of activities. World Refugee Day is on 20th  June 2011, when the plight of millions of refugees around the world is commemorated. The centre will launch activities from 18th- 25th June 2011.


A key event is scheduled at the Houses of Parliament on Monday, 20th June from 6.00 to 7.30. It will discuss the issue of Palestinian Refugees in Lebanon in light of PRC’s parliamentary delegation to Lebanon in Feb 2011. The delegation to Lebanon was followed up with a number of activities including a meeting with the British Minister of International Development, Andrew Mitchell, to discuss key problems identified during the delegation.  The event will be a chance to share the experiences of the parliamentary delegation to Lebanon. It will be chaired by Sir Gerald Kaufman MP and hosted by Jeremy Corbyn MP.  Speakers include Baroness Jenny Tonge; Dawn Chatty, Deputy Director of the Refugee Studies Centre Oxford University, Dr Arafat Shoukri of the CEPR and Mr. Nasim Ahmed of PRC. On the 25th of June 2011, the centre will also hold an open day event on Hyde Park Speaker Corner. Speeches, debates and discussions will be made on the day. The event will last 3 hours from 2pm to 5 pm. On the 17th of June the centre is organizing a boycott protest in Ealing Broadway along with many pro Palestinian activists. Also, it will participate in an event at Brighton  focusing on the Palestinian issue and the wider Arab revolutions.
