The Palestinian Return Centre (PRC) sharply condemns the unwise decision by British government to arrest Shaykh Raed Salah. The centre calls on the British Government to release Shaykh Salaah immediately and unconditionally.
PRC totally rejects the British government’s position that this decision is about the public good. Raed Salah is unlike other controversial figures who the British government denied entry to the UK because of their views that spread hate and Islamophopia. The Centre perceives Raed Salah’s discourse as moderate and not hate provocative. The Government must be cautious in dealing with people like Salah and should make sure not to equate them with other fanatics. The centre calls on British people and residents of the United Kingdom to take prompt actions by contacting their MPs calling for the release of Salaah. Remarkably, Shaykh Salah was never charged with anti-Semitism or any race related charges in Israel. The accusations relied on in the arrest process where only claims and rumors smeared by Israeli lobbies in the UK. PRC is deeply saddened by the act of the government and upset of the government’s inability to think through this debacle clearly and come out on the side of those who are standing against occupation and injustice in Palestine. For those in the Arab and Muslim world PRC is fearful that it will again be seen as an example of biasness against Palestinian Rights.
