Workshop in Geneva: Towards Protecting the Palestinian Right of Return

The Palestinian Return Centre organised a side event onboard of the 28th session of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council (HRC).

The event titled ‘Towards Protecting the Palestinian Right of Return’ addressed the issue of the Palestinian refugees right to return to their homes and villages in Palestine a right denied to them for over six decades.

The event looked into the Palestinian Right of Return in light of the developments in the region where Palestinian refugees continue to be displaced and denied their right of return.

Sahdya Darr, researcher at the Palestinian Return Centre, delivered a paper on the importance of the right of return and answered the following questions: Why does Israel continue to deny the Right of Return?; Why does the Right of Return remain important?; and What is the role of the international community and the UN in enforcing the Right of Return?

She added that the UN must re assess its relation with Israel in light of the Israeli’s constant refusal to the United Nations resolutions on Palestine.

Sameh Habeeb, Head of Media and PR, Palestinian Return Centre who also spoke at the event, criticized the double standards policy of the United Nations, EU and International community in on Israel, where they give the occupation state a cover for its human rights violations.
