Speech of Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Turkey to the 13th Palestinians in Europe Conference

MESSAGE FOR 13th PALESTINIANS IN EUROPE CONFERENCE

Dear Mr. Mecid El Zir, President of Palestinians in Europe Conference andChairman of the Palestinians Return Centre

Dear President, Esteemed Guests,My most Esteemed Brothers,

I would like to thank you for your kind invitation to the 13th Palestinians in Europe Conference and express my gratitude to all who  have contributed in the organization of this important event.

I wholeheartedly support our Palestinian brothers’ honourable struggle for freedom against occupation and I sincerely believe that your blessed cause will be victorious.

For the resolution of the Palestinian question, which has been the bleeding wound of the Middle East for over half a century, Turkey has ever since been beside Palestine despite all sorts of pressure, threat, difficulty and hardship, and regarded the cause of the Palestinians as its own.

A just and lasting resolution to the Palestinian  question can only be possible with the remedying of the historical injustice faced by Palestinians and the establishment of an independent Palestinian State  on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Henceforth, I welcome recent positive developments regarding the recognition of Palestine as a state in the international arena, and would like to take this occasion to invite all countries that have been late to take this step to take action.

From now on, the international community should spend greater effort for the resolution of this question , which shatters deeply the stability, tranquillity and peace of the whole region, and also should say “stop” to Israel’s occupation and settlement policies, disregarding United Nations’ resolutions and the international law.

In this sensitive period we are in, our Palestinian brothers, too, should remain in unity and solidarity, and continue their struggle in a coalesced manner.

With these sentiments and thoughts, I pray to Allah for success in your ongoing efforts and would like to once again emphasise that we will resolutely continue our solidarity with our Palestinian brothers.

On behalf of myself and my nation, I salute with yearning, fondness and respect, all my Palestinian brothers who resist against occupation fearlessly, tirelessly, and without loss of their belief and determination in a brighter future.

Recep Tayyip ErdoğanPresident of Turkey
