PRC to take part at 55th session of the UN Commission for Social Development in New York

The Palestinian Return Centre (PRC) is preparing to take part in the United Nations Fifty-Fifth session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD55) which will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 1 to 10 February 2017.

According to the commission the priority theme for the 2017-2018 review and policy cycle will be “Strategies for the eradication of poverty to achieve sustainable development for all”.

 

The centre will organise a side event on the 9th of February at the United Nations Headquarters in New York which will focus on poverty in Palestinian refugee camps. Experts and academics will discuss how poverty affects many Palestinian refugees living in camps which suffer from the adverse changing conditions of the Middle East.

 

The event will bring together diplomats, UN officials, stakeholders and civil society in order to evaluates strategies to address one of the most pressing issues currently facing the international community.

 

PRC has also submitted a written statement focusing on poverty in Palestinian refugee camps and provided an argument which clearly specifies the responsibilities of regional and international stakeholders. The written statement titled " Assessing Poverty among Palestinian Refugees in the Middle East: Challenges and Prospects" also addressed the Sustainable Development Goals and possible strategies to alleviate poverty levels for millions of Palestinian refugees.
