The Palestinian Return Centre (PRC) met with Richard Burden MP (Labour) to present him with an honouree plaque for his support during our bid to join the UN ECOSOC as an NGO in special consultative status. Burden was pleased to accept the award and keen to discuss the wok of the PRC and the current issues and developments for the Palestinian people. During the meeting the PRC’s recent activities at the UN and in Parliament were also on the agenda.
Richard Burden not only chairs the British-Palestine All Party Parliamentary Group, but is also the Vice Chair of Labour Friends of Palestine and the Middle East. He is a vocal supporter of Palestine, and publicly denounces Israel’s blockades, settlement expansion and advocates the use of sanctions against Israel.
Burden was updated on the success of the PRC’s recent side-event at the UN headquarters in New York, which examined the socio-economic conditions faced by Palestinian refugees. Also discussed were the upcoming activities at the UN in Geneva in March, in which the PRC will be meeting with various missions and hosting a further two more side-events.
The PRC also briefed Mr Burden on the success of other meetings with MPs and the PRC’s event taking place that evening in the House of Commons discussing the impact of Trump and Brexit on Middle Eastern relations.
