PRC meets with Sinn Fein

London, 12 December 2017

The Palestinian Return Centre (PRC) met with Sinn Féin Party Member of Parliament for Foyle Elisha McCallion, joined by Mickey Brady, Member of Parliament for Newry and Armagh, to brief them about PRC's past work and to discuss potential future collaborations.

The PRC updated the two Members on its work to raise awareness about the Palestinian right of return, as well as its Parliamentary activities including hosting events and the provision of research material on the subject of Palestinian refugees.

Mr. Brady discussed his recent visit to East Jerusalem which he stated was reminiscent of his past experience in Northern Ireland; in terms of the appalling treatment of children, women, and the overwhelming presence of checkpoints.

Ms. McCallion recounted her past involvement with the Palestinian cause in 2015 in Derry where she acted as Mayor, when she hosted a reception for the Palestinian delegation who took part in the Walled City Marathon.

Mr. Brady and Ms. McCallion both expressed support for the Palestinian cause, and were keen to work together with PRC to raise awareness of the Palestinian refugee issue.

Ms. McCallion noted that Sinn Féin Foyle MLA Raymond McCartney addressed a rally in Derry on Thursday night condemning Trump's recent decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Protests also took place in Dublin, while a demonstration is scheduled for this Saturday in Belfast.

The PRC is thankful for the opportunity to meet Elisha McCallion MP and Mickey Brady MP, and looks forward to collaborating with Sinn Féin MPs to highlight the importance of Palestinian self-determination and right to return in the coming year.
