"On 11 December 1948, following the Palestinian Nakba and mass displacement of over 750,000 indigenous Palestinians, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 194 (III), resolving that “refugees wishing to return to their homes and live at peace with their neighbours should be permitted to do so at the earliest practicable date, and that compensation should be paid for the property of those choosing not to return and for loss of or damage to property [...]” 70 years on, Palestinians inside and outside Israel/Palestine continue to struggle for justice and self-determination, evidenced in the series of peaceful demonstrations that took place in the occupied Gaza Strip as part of the "Great March of Return”. 

 

Speakers will provide a legal context to the challenges facing refugees across Europe today, as well as the political and diplomatic significance of UNGAR 194, amidst current attempts to undermine Palestinian collective rights, especially the right of return of Palestinian refugees to their home. "
