The Palestinian Return Centre (PRC) in London acclaims the UN court’s ruling Friday that demanded Israel take measures to prevent genocide in the Gaza Strip.

The ruling was issued after South Africa filed, on Dec. 29, a lawsuit with the ICJ requesting an injunction against Israel on the grounds that Israel's attacks on Gaza violate the UN Genocide Convention.

The court order comes at the right time, for the right people, and in the right place. Israeli bombardments in Gaza since Oct. 7 have left more than 26,000 Palestinians dead.

PRC welcomes ICJ’s instructions that Israel limit Palestinian deaths in assaults on Gaza and allow humanitarian aid.

The Centre reiterates the full and immediate compliance with the decision, which is not only a triumph for the Palestinian cause but for humanity as a whole.

The ICJ should make another step forward following this provisional ruling to ensure that hostilities and massacres, especially against women and children, stop, immediately.

The court’s decision is a milestone blow to the double standards on the part of many Western governments who have been silent and complicit in Israel’s ethnic cleansing crimes.

PRC calls on the international community and UN bodies to work on ensuring the urgent application of the decreed measures, an immediate cessation of hostilities and displacement of civilians, and the swift reconstruction of the besieged Gaza Strip.

PRC hopes that the decision will pave the way for accountability for Israel and justice for thousands of innocent Palestinians and deter further Israeli aggression and ethnic cleansing.

We support any and every effort to punish those responsible for crimes committed against civilians. Treating Israel as an exception to international law and norms must stop.
