London, 25 June 2024 — The Palestinian Return Centre (PRC) has briefed the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, urging immediate investigations into the appalling conditions faced by Palestinian detainees from Gaza in the Israeli Sde Teiman detention camp.
During the briefing, PRC presented harrowing testimonies from lawyer Khaled Mhajneh, who recently gained unprecedented access to the notorious camp. According to Mhajneh, over 1,000 Palestinian detainees endure inhumane conditions, including amputation of limbs without anaesthesia, being constantly handcuffed and blindfolded, sleeping on the ground without blankets, and suffering severe physical and psychological abuse.
The briefing highlights shocking reports of detainees being subjected to rape, sexual abuse, and extreme forms of punishment. CNN and New York Times investigations corroborate these accounts, revealing systemic abuse and violations of international law.
"The treatment of Palestinian detainees at Sde Teiman constitutes a grave violation of human rights and international law," PRC said "We call on the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention to urgently investigate these atrocities and ensure accountability."
The PRC emphasizes the urgency of addressing these violations immediately.
